Our History

Sawyer Paddles & Oars sprouted from Ralph Sawyer, the first canoe competitor to be inducted into the Canoeing Hall of Fame. Ralph established a company that would provide customers with well designed performance proven paddles to endure generations of use. (Most of our founding 1967 customers are still enjoying antheir original Sawyer paddles.) Sawyer quickly became recognized across the globe for quality, performance, value and beauty.

As roots spread and begin to strengthen with time, Sawyer’s traditional paddle making has been joined with innovative technologies to give you the most advanced performance driven products available. Since 1987 Bruce Bergstrom, an experienced waterman by passion, has added state of the art design and crafting efficiencies to a solid Sawyer legacy. Sawyer now offers a full line of modern and traditional products for oarsmen, canoeists, kayakers, surfers and paddlers of all genres. We continue to innovate and evolve our product line so you can experience a clear connection to water.
